Dartera, a Swiss digital marketing consultancy serving over 100 satisfied customers worldwide, needed a robust, enterprise-grade hosting solution for their WordPress platform. The challenge was to build an AWS infrastructure that could automatically scale based on traffic demands, maintain high availability through active/passive redundancy, deliver optimized performance, and include comprehensive monitoring for peace of mind.
The Challenge
Dartera's existing hosting infrastructure couldn't keep pace with their growing client base and increasing traffic demands. They faced several critical challenges:
- Traffic spikes during marketing campaigns caused performance degradation
- Single point of failure risked costly downtime for their lead-generation platform
- Manual scaling required constant attention and couldn't respond fast enough to sudden load increases
- Lack of proactive monitoring meant issues were often discovered after they impacted users
- Performance bottlenecks affected their AI-powered marketing features and user experience
Our Solution: Auto-Scaling AWS Architecture
We designed and implemented a comprehensive AWS infrastructure built from the ground up for reliability, performance, and intelligent scaling. The solution leverages AWS best practices to ensure Dartera's platform remains fast and available regardless of traffic conditions.
- EC2 Auto Scaling Groups configured to automatically add or remove instances based on CPU, memory, and request metrics
- Application Load Balancer (ALB) for intelligent traffic distribution and health checking
- Amazon RDS with Multi-AZ deployment for database high availability
- Amazon ElastiCache (Redis) for WordPress object caching and session management
- Amazon CloudFront CDN for global content delivery and reduced origin load
- Terraform for Infrastructure as Code, enabling version-controlled, reproducible infrastructure provisioning across all environments
High Availability & Redundancy
For a business that generates leads around the clock, downtime is not an option. We implemented a highly redundant Active/Passive architecture that ensures continuous availability:
- Multi-AZ deployment across geographically separated data centers in Europe
- Automated failover mechanisms with health checks every 10 seconds
- Database replication with synchronous standby for zero data loss
- Route 53 DNS failover for automatic traffic rerouting during outages
- Regular automated backups with point-in-time recovery capabilities
Performance Optimization
WordPress performance was critical for Dartera's lead-generation effectiveness. We implemented multiple layers of optimization to ensure lightning-fast page loads:
- PHP-FPM with OPcache for compiled PHP code caching
- Redis object cache integration for database query optimization
- CloudFront edge caching with optimized TTLs for static assets
- Gzip and Brotli compression for reduced transfer sizes
- Image optimization pipeline with WebP conversion and lazy loading
